The season is upon us folks, no not just the holidays… travel season. Who’s ready??? I’m always excited to get to go home to Chicago and see my family, but getting there during the holidays is ALWAYS an experience lol. I’ve had delays due to weather, coffee machines being broken on the plane (excuse me, what), planes arriving late from other locations, you name it! As I write this post this very moment, I am sitting in the Kansas City Airport, delayed, for the second time tonight. LOVIN’ IT! Hahaha. So what I’m gonna do is give you guys my best tips for traveling during the holidays and other major busy times (which feels like every moment of the year, but whatever).
Packing
- Plan your outfits
- Roll your clothes– I can’t even tell you how much space this has saved me in the past! Also, less wrinkles!!
- Socks in shoes–savin’ space is what I’m about!
- Wear your bulkiest items to the airport– especially in the winter! I always wear the bulkiest sweater/shoes/coat while I’m traveling so I don’t have to worry about stuffing it all in my bag.
- Minimize your load the best you can– do you reaaaallllly need to bring your full size hair products??
- Get a handheld luggage scale OR the do the scale trick– get on the scale, record number, pick up bag, record number. 1st number-2nd number= luggage weight. I’m sure you all know this, but just to remind ya;)
- FOUR WHEELED LUGGAGE. I did not understand this luxury until last year and I will never go back. Here’s the luggage I got for Christmas last year, but my big grey one was cheaper and from Home Goods. Here’s my cute backpack that fits on my suitcase (purchased from TJ Maxx for cheaper though).
Before you get to the airport/while you’re waiting to board
- Make sure everything your Spotify playlists are DOWNLOADED. Nothing worse than getting your headphones on just to realize that none of your songs are available without data/wifi.
- Drink lots of water! No one likes swollen ankles and dehydration.
- Eat something beforehand or bring your OWN snacks. Nothing like spending $10 on a cinnabun that will make you feel nasty and overly full for your flight!
- For my fellow Southwest flyers, set an alarm for 24 hours (and a few minutes) before your flight so you can check in as early as possible. I love doing this so that I can get first dibs on the best aisle seat on the plane (small bladder probs, must always have easy access to the bathroom ugh).
The Flight
- I am all about the in-flight libations, but just make sure you’re getting in your H2O! If you aren’t a huge water fan, try getting a sparkling water with a splash of orange juice–feels like a cocktail, hydrates like a champ.
- Bring an eye mask! Nothing like a red eye flight, dying for some shut eye and having to sit next to someone who wants to play on their iPad the whole time (literally from experience…).
- Get up and walk around. Very important on long flights and helps combat ankle swelling! I seriously get elephant ankles when I fly long distances, ugh.
- Be careful about what you touch. You don’t have to go crazy and sanitize every little thing, but at least keep a mini sani in your bag ready to go.
Well folks, that’s all I have for ya this time! If you liked this, make sure to share it. If you want more tips like this, let me know and I can give you some more 🙂
