Hey hey, hungry friends! I am here today to tell you about the top-rated meal kit delivery service…drum roll please… HELLOFRESH!!!! Honestly, I was always a little skeptical of these meal kits because I didn’t want something that was going to take me 3 hours to cook, ya girl just doesn’t have time for that. After seeing every influencer under the sun talking about Home Chef, HelloFresh, etc., I figured it was time I tried one out.
There are discount codes for HelloFresh EVERYWHERE, so my boyfriend and I just tried to find the best one and went with it! We agreed to order the meals until the coupon ran out and decide what to do from there. We do 3 meals/week for two people (duh, hehe). For us, that option just seemed like the best because we both get busy and also like to eat out (helllllooo Mission Taco ;), so we didn’t want any food to go to waste. I will say, I do think HelloFresh has prevented us from eating out as much because we have a yummy dish to make at home. Alright, here are my pros and cons for HelloFresh:
**DISCLAIMER: These opinions are completely my OWN. The things that I didn’t particularly like may not bother you or maybe you won’t agree with my pros! No wrong or right answer here, I just want to share my experience 🙂
PROS:
- Portions are PERFECT for the two of us. In fact, I hardly ever finished my portions and gave the rest to my bf. Best case scenario for the both of us I would say!
- The cooking is EASY. Everything is laid out on nice recipe cards (keep for future days when you wanna remake on your own) and they really hold your hand through every step. Fool proof! 🙂
- Easy meal selection and variety! Each week HelloFresh curates a new menu for you to choose your meals from. They have regular, calorie smart, veggie, gourmet, what more could you want?
- FRESH FOOD and QUALITY MEAT. For all my meat eaters out there, if you’ve ever felt sketched out by picking your own meat, that all stops here. Every piece I’ve received has been great quality and low fat. Love it!
CONS:
- So. Many. Dishes. My apartment has an EXTREMELY small sink, so we really had to wash while we worked which was kinda frustrating.
- Hard to keep all parts of the meal warm while everything is cooking. They try to break it down to prevent this, I’m sure. Realistically though, I think it would be okay to cook things in your own order to ensure the meal turns out right.
- Doesn’t provide EVERYTHING you need. Not a major con, considering I do cook a lot and have many of the “extras” the recipes require. However, if you’re a newbie, you may want to check what your recipes need for the week so you’re prepared.
- A lemon zester is needed for so many recipes and I don’t have one. It’s annoying. (I think this is just my own personal con because I tried to zest a lemon without a zester last week and it was a HOT mess lol.
- Kinda pricey without any discount code, to be honest. I still bought groceries every week because I take my lunch to work and make breakfast every morning. I think maybe for a family this type of expense would make sense, but for lil ol’ me, it’s a bit much.
Overall, I would give my experience ⅘ stars, not bad right?
