HELLO! Long time, no talk my friends! I decided to come out of my blog hiatus while we have all been in quarantine.
I know your feed, the news and everything in between has been extremely saturated with anything and everything COVID-19, probably for good reason, right? These times are unprecedented and I thought what better time to start writing again (yanno, with all this extra time I have now lol) and try to be a positive light in this dark cloud of coronavirus. SO this all said, I’m gonna try to make posts that are relevant to the times, but also some that are cheerful and exciting to read.
In today’s post, I am going to give you a nice, long life update. It’s been quite a while since I’ve posted to my blog and I have honestly sat down and attempted to write so many times. While I have been busy with work, I’ve also kind of been avoiding this post. I’ve been at a crossroads in terms of deciding how much I should share about my personal life and what you all care to know! Overall, I decided that I’m just gonna spill all the beans in hopes that maybe it helps someone else or allows you to relate to ya girl through the computer screen. 😉
From last year to now, I have been in the application process to attend medical school. Med school has been a goal of mine for many years now and this time I got to the last and final step before acceptance: the interview. For those of you who don’t know, med school applications are grueling. There is the primary application which takes forever to complete. After that, you receive secondary applications from each individual school with each containing 3+ essays (can I get an UGH?). They are incredibly time consuming, expensive and tedious. I seriously thought I would go mad as I felt like I was saying the same thing over and over again in each essay. Dear lord, I was losing it. All this to say, I finally submitted all my applications last year and was able to interview at two amazing schools! However, I have been placed on the waiting list and still have not been asked to attend. I think what bothers me more is that I WAS SO FREAKIN CLOSE this time. Technically, all hope isn’t lost because I could still get in, but as time goes on my chances are becoming smaller for this year.
Originally I had taken a break from the blog because I was focusing on submitting secondary essays to schools and doing interview preparations. That break was prolonged because I have had negative motivation after realizing that I still may not get into medical school this year. And maybe you’re wondering, what’s the rush? I’ll tell you. I have been a lab tech for the past two years and while this experience has been beneficial in understanding hospital norms and providing an opportunity for me to work in a real laboratory, I haven’t been able to use much of my degree that I worked incredibly hard for. Along with that, there is no room for me to grow in this position so I am perpetually stuck at this wage and with this work. Saying this, I’m sure you can gather that it’s extremely hard to stay motivated somewhere that I am just stagnant in my role. Here’s where I am at today:
I’m getting ready for one last application cycle to medical school. I wanted to share this story and be upfront in case someone else has gone through the struggle with med school or anything else! I’m going to be more open about the process and how it’s going. If you want to hear a more detailed timeline of how this all goes down, let me know! 👩⚕️
Here’s some positive updates to end this post on:
