Hi everyone!! I have been wanting to write about this topic for so so long and I can’t lie to you all, I actually would have sooner. I had to head home to Chicago a couple of weekends ago and had written this post during my flight, but it DIDN’T save. Ahhhh, I’m just assuming the blog gods didn’t want me to post that work for some reason (this is literally just making me feel better for forgetting to press the save draft button :-)).
ANYWAYS, this post is all about podcasts. Ever heard of ’em? Do you listen to them? It’s crazy, because I’ve known about podcasts since I was assigned to listen to one in high school, but didn’t truly get into them until my roommates introduced me to ones in college. As I’m sure many of you know, these days there are podcasts that cover almost every topic under the sun. Meaning, there is a podcast for everyone, if you’re interested. That being said, since it is fall time, I tend to lean towards more spooky and haunting podcasts to truly enjoy the season. So, I’ve prepared a list of some of the best podcasts I’ve listened to recently and I truly hope you give them a try because I have NOT been able to stop talking about some of these ones!
I’ve listened to these podcasts on both Apple podcasts and on Spotify!
Dr. Death
CALLING ALL GREY’S ANATOMY FANS!! This podcast takes a dark turn discussing the all too real and terrifying career of a Dr. Christopher Duntsch. He was a personable, intelligent neurosurgeon on the surface, but underneath, he was a murderous man who was wildly unqualified for the procedures he had done. This podcast is about seven episodes, around 40 minutes each, full of real-life testimonies from patients, family, friends, colleagues, former professors and more. The story is told wonderfully and keeps you hooked.
Spooky factor: This story is extra scary because it made me question the amount of trust I place in another human’s hand. Not that I’ve ever had a doctor like Dr. Duntsch (and uh, HELLO hope I never will), but it definitely made me think about the doctors or really, anyone out there that we trust. This incredibly terrifying true story is addicting and a must-listen.
Dirty John
Ok, I am extra excited about this one because it was SO good that it inspired a limited TV series to made!!! (Here’s the trailer for the BRAVO show set to hit your very own TV as soon as Nov. 25th https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-dUiO1ZV1s).
Again just as above, the creepiest thing about this podcast is that it is based off of an all-too-real story. “Dirty John” snuck his way into Debra Newell’s family and wooed her completely. For some reason though, none of her children or family members seem to be as in love with him as Debra and let me tell you, they were right to feel that way. Listen to this six episode podcast and learn of the story of a single mother who believed she finally found the man who checked all. the. boxes. (Gosh, don’t we all wish we could find that??)
This one is a must listen because the show is premiering oh-so-soon!!!
—–Side note: This weekend my roommate and I are getting cable installed and you better believe I made sure that the Bravo channel would be available with my cable package, HA.
My Favorite Murder
I’m sure you all have heard of this podcast series, but if you haven’t it is a great true-crime podcast to start with. The hosts Georgia and Karen take a more relaxed and fun approach to some of the MOST interesting murder stories I have ever heard. Here’s a couple of episodes that really have stuck with me over the past two years of listening:
- Project Artichoke
- Reality’s canceled
- Decompressions
- Proclensity
- Fingers Everywhere
Disclaimer: This podcast is very conversational and some of the episodes are drawn out a bit. If you don’t like that too much, I suggest skipping past the first 20-30 min of the episodes because they tend to go through life-updates during this time.
Case File
Ok, this one is MFM-esque but narrated by an Australian man who cuts the crap and gets right to business. My suggested episodes:
- Silk Road (If the Dark Web is a crazy weird concept to you like it is to me, give this multi-part episode a listen)
- The Lady in the Barrel
- Amy Allwine –> THIS ONE IS AMAZING and again, involves the mysterious Dark Web
Well guys, I could write about good podcasts all day but I will stop here so I won’t overwhelm anyone! Give these ones a listen and I promise you won’t regret it. I’ll keep you guys updated on any new episodes and podcasts I hear about, but until then plug in those headphones baby!
