Hello!!! Wow guys, I have MISSED writing for this blog! It has truly been way way way too long. See, I had been wanting to do something like this for YEARS (a blog, a cooking instagram, Youtube channel), literally have tried it all. Every time I started one, I either felt like it wasn’t good enough and I needed more time or I just got too plain busy! So here we are today, with a little update and also a small talk about our priorities.
Have you guys heard of the Eisenhower Matrix? I was introduced to it a few years ago while I was in college and it always stuck with me because it’s VERY helpful. This matrix helps you prioritize your priorities..seriously. Here’s an example:
By categorizing our priorities like this, I think we are able to better plan how much time to spend on each one. For me, for example, at the time I started this blog I was also beginning to study for a HUGE entrance exam that would decide a lot of my future. So studying for that test was in the “important but not urgent” section. I had months to study for it, but it still needed A LOT of attention. In my urgent and important section I had things such as calling insurance companies after my car accident, making sure bills were paid on time, etc. I also was getting extremely burnt out with work and felt like putting 110% in every day wasn’t getting me anywhere. And where to put Chats with Alexis??? Well, I bit off more than I could chew I can tell you all that. I thought that having this little side project would be a fun and easy to maintain…
LOL. Guys, I was largely mistaken. I had decided to make a blog on a whim and within a week was switching website hosts, buying a domain, designing a website (which if you don’t know, I was a pre-med in college so I NEVER learned how to do stuff like this, shout out to my best gals who did journalism, this ish is HARD!!!!), attempting to take pictures with my iPhone and managing an Instagram/Pinterest/Facebook page. Does that stress you out just to read? Because I’m stressed 🙂
Here’s the thing though, ever since I took a break from writing, I have missed it. And even though my most consistent readers are usually my coworkers and my family, I still hope to help someone with these posts or at least make them smile! So here I am, back again and ready to commit. I won’t say that I still have a ton of room on my plate, but this site makes me happy and we should always make time for the things that make us happy right? I think about how my matrix (like the one above) is always changing. Right now, in my critical and urgent section I have things like application deadlines, bills (anyone else hate that word?), and some other time sensitive things. Chats with Alexis has now been promoted to important but not urgent because ya girl gets to be her own boss on here and make her own schedule ;-).
What does your matrix look like? It can be pretty hard to even list your priorities. Some of us have a million because we love to take as much as we can, even if it isn’t healthy (aka me all the time) or some of us have an easy three priorities. If you have trouble finding enough hours in a day to get everything done, I encourage you to take 15-20 minutes to list out what’s important to you and fill in the matrix. If you see your productivity increases I would LOVE to hear about it. I am all about making things easier on myself and this is one way I can do it, so I can see it all laid out in front of me, knowing that I cannot go to the next box without dealing with the one before it.
Well guys, if you’ve stuck with me since the beginning THANK YOU. I will be posting consistently and hopefully giving you content you love!
Xoxo,
Alexis
